Interesting New Pistol Arm Brace Hits the Market

I ran across this funky-looking thing last night. It’s from a new company called Sylvan Arms. I haven’t heard of them until now. Looks like it straps to your arm. Has anyone bought one of these? What did you think? Did you like it? What did you like? What did you not like? Price point doesn’t seem too far off the mark.

Introducing the Shockwave Raptor Lug for Mossberg 500 PGOs

Shockwave Raptor Lug for Mossberg 500 PGOs

Today, Shockwave Technologies is proud to introduce the Raptor Lug for Mossberg 500 PGO firearms. Developed by Shawn Straffin with 802Traders, the precision-machined Raptor Lug solves the problem of purchasing an expensive Mossberg 500 PGO 12-gauge firearm and then having to turn around and purchase a sometimes-even-more expensive 14″ front end kit—just to build a badass non-NFA firearm.

The Raptor Lug ships with the lug itself, a roll pin, a magazine spring retainer, and six pages of detailed illustrated instructions. The simplicity of building a non-NFA 14″ Mossberg 500 with the Raptor Lug is sheer genius:

  • Install the Raptor Grip M500 (sold separately)
  • Chop your barrel and magazine tube (using a hacksaw is just fine—the Raptor Lug hides the cut end)
  • Cut your magazine spring
  • Drive the Raptor Lug M500 onto your barrel and magazine tube
  • Drill a 1/8 hole and secure the lug in place with the included roll pin

No special tools needed. An overall length of 26.5″ is maintained throughout the process.

The Raptor Lug is offered at the low introductory price of just $39.95. Add a Raptor Grip for $25.95 and a Tactical Strap Kit for $11.49—and you have a handy, seriously badass home defense weapon for less than $80 (plus the price of the host firearm, of course).

You can find more information about the Raptor Lug here.

Thank You for Hanging in There with Us During This Crazy Time

An open letter to our customers with current backorders. We were caught unprepared for the sheer onslaught of orders we received during the Christmas and New Years holidays. And then Obama went and ran his mouth. It was the perfect storm. We are working with our suppliers to get components in as fast as possible—and ship as quickly as we can. That said, it will still be 3 to 7 business days from today before we are completely caught up. If you have a backorder with us and would like a refund, please send an email to that effect. (Email is much more efficient than calling.) But if you can hang in there for another week plus or minus, thank you tremendously.

Which Mossberg 500 Should You Buy?

Which Mossberg 500 Should You Buy?

I get asked—A LOT—about which Mossberg 500 PGO model to buy and use as the basis for building a 26.5″ non-NFA firearm. I took the time recently to sit down and pour through all the different models of 500 that Mossberg sells—both 12-gauge and 20-gauge models of their Cruisers and Persuaders.

In the 12-gauge realm, there are several good candidates. The best in my opinion, however, is the 56340. (Shown at the top of this story.) This is a 20″ model with an 8-shot capacity and a matte finish. Most often, the bolt on these models has received the matte finish as well, which really makes the Raptor-ized firearm simply badass.

The next best 12-gauge candidate is the 51340. This is an 18.5″ model with a 6-shot capacity and also a matte finish. However, the bolts on these are usually chrome plated in my experience.

There are two other 12-gauge models that could also work: the 50580 and the 50440. Both of these models, however, feature a bright blue finish (versus a matte blue finish.) The 50580 is a 20″ model with an 8-shot capacity. The 50440 is an 18.5″ model with 6-shot capacity.

For 20-gauge guns, there’s really only one choice from Mossberg: the 50450 is a 18.5″ model with a 6-shot capacity and a bright blue finish.

I’ll just leave this picture here to tempt you to cross over to the Raptor side. 🙂

Note: All of the Mossberg 500 models discussed in this story ship from the factory with only a pistol grip. In other words, they are PGO firearms—not shotguns.

Mossberg Begins Selling 14″ Front Ends Again

Well, theories abound about what exactly happened between the BATFE, a handful of Congress critters, and the NRA—and why Mossberg suddenly and without explanation stopped selling a legal product to law-abiding citizens earlier this year. I won’t get into all that here. I’m just happy to report that, as of today, Mossberg is once again selling the 14″ front ends for the Mossberg 500 12-gauges.

If you’re in the market for one, give Mossberg Customer Support a call at 1-800-363-3555 and simply order part number 92514. Note that there has been a substantial price increase. In March 2015—before the “event”—the price of the kit was $185.53. Today, the new price is an even $245.00 plus shipping through Mossberg. When I asked, the Mossberg rep couldn’t say why the price had jumped more than 30 percent.

Shockwave Technologies will soon be offering now offers these 14″ front end kits on our website and through our other online channels here for $241.95 plus $15 shipping.

More information on the non-NFA 26.5″ Mossberg 500 is available here.

Help us beat the patent infringement lawsuit

As most of you know, since April I have been fighting a patent lawsuit in federal court. The lawsuit was filed by SB Tactical, a company that makes a product that, like the Blade, attaches to an AR buffer tube.

Without boring you with the details, the lawsuit is a design patent infringement lawsuit. I am told that the test for design patent infringement is whether an ordinary observer would think the patented design and the Blade look so similar that it’s confusing.

My attorney created these composite images showing the design patent drawings overlaid on the Blade. What do you think?

So what do you think? Are the patent drawings and the Blade so similar that you’re confused? Personally, every time I look at these drawings I am amazed that this lawsuit even exists.

Although my attorney says we don’t need it, one way we can show the court how different the patent and the Blade are is by comparing the patent to earlier products. For example, the Plaintiff thinks that Fig. 5 looks like my product. But Fig. 5 looks at least as much like an M4 stock:

Since the patent drawings look like an M4 stock, which has been around for many years, the Plaintiff’s claim is moot.

So here’s where you come in. If you would like to help us fight this lawsuit, we welcome your input. Please send photos of gun parts that look like the patent drawings to this email address: shockwave_f7fd@sendtodropbox.com. The photos have to be older than January 28, 2013. It’s helpful if you can describe the photo or where you found it. And if you could share this blog post on forums and social media, we would be very grateful.

Thank you for your continued support of Shockwave.

Thank you and God Bless,
Marty Ewer
