Products for Mossberg 500 Firearms

Mossberg makes badass shotguns and other firearms. However, there’s always room to make ‘em even meaner. Here are a few parts that will help you get the very most out of your Mossy.

Raptor Grip for Mossberg 500 Series  $25.95

The Shockwave Technologies Raptor Grip gives you a great, felt-recoil-reducing grip on your firearm. Learn more here.

Tactical Forearm Strap Kit for Mossberg 500 Series  $11.49

Tactical forearm strap kit for the Mossberg 500 and 590 series keeps your forward hand in place during recoil. Learn more here.

Reminiscent of the Speedfeed Pistol Grip (previously sold by Speedfeed under the part number of SPF-0394 but discontinued by the company), this is a similar, however far improved version. (No sharp edges of the shotgun receiver are left exposed.) It is slightly longer, too.

  1. Justin says:

I’m planning to buy the Raptor for my Maverick 88 as I see from reading the comments it’s works with that model, what I’m unsure of is what else I need because comparing the maverick I have with what’s in the picture ya’ll have up the barrel in the picture is significantly shorter. Do I need a different barrel? If so what do you recommend and what other products would you guys recommend so I can upgrade it to look more like what’s up top?

  2. Nick says:

are you still selling the 14″ conversion kit or did BATF strike it down?

    • marty says:

Mossberg used to sell the parts for the legal conversion. Someone got to them–and they will no longer sell legal products to the discerning public.

  3. Richard F says:

just received my birds head to replace the pistol grip for my mossberg 500 tactical cruiser. this grip is awesome and ergonomic! with the normal pistol grip the recoil is applied too much to your already bent wrist; after 100 rounds of 12 gauge magnum the wrist gets sore and bruising between the thumb and index finger occurs. with the birds head, its almost nothing on my wrist with no bruising and my dad (with wrist issues) can actually shoot the 12ga now because of this grip. to top it off it looks badass too. phenominal guys! 10/10 would recommend

  4. JT says:

I have one of the raptor grips for my M500 (20in barrel, 7+1 cap) and i love it! but i recently came across a M930. Do you think there would be any way y’all could make a raptor grip for the M930? I know there is a long iron pipe in the stock it came with and when you take that pipe off, there is a big hole, with threads.. maybe make a raptor grip with similar threads? I would buy 2 grips if y’all made them for the M930!!! please!

    • marty says:

      Hello JT,

I don’t believe there is a way (an easy way) to add a Raptor Grip to a semi-auto.

      Thank you for writing in,

      • JT says:

well, i figured it could not hurt to ask lol it would be awesome though! Thank you for your time to respond!

  5. Bob Smith says:

Does the forend with strap fit the 410 ga.? I just like the idea of the strap for grandsons 410.

  6. Boogerboo says:

Love the birdshead grip I have on my Mossy 590. Nice and easy on comfort and fitment for the hand and wrist. Wish you had an option for some checkering on the grip.

  7. Clint says:

you should start making these for Ithaca 37s and Winchester 1300s ????

  8. Peter says:

Why have I read more than a fair share of caveats regarding how differently this grip is meant to be held as well as how differently the shotgun needs to be fired with it?

Shotguns still need to be aimed, and without actually trying one, my guess would be it needs to be grasped tighter than a rifle stock or pistol grip because in first case, the rifle stock against one’s shoulder limits the backward travel of the shotgun, and in the second case, the pistol grip has the hand, wrist, and forearm aligned and locked as a single unit.

With this grip, there has to be movement in the hand in concert with the grip to keep from putting right-angular pressure on your wrist.

I suspect that it also needs to be held as far away from your face as possible when aiming down the barrel. If you’re shooting from the mid-torso to the hip, your arm would need to swing like a pendulum.

With the shortened barrel, the sound pressure is being placed closer to your ears, and that 167dB that a standard load, 9-pellet 00 buck shot shell produces, if this is going to be your HD weapon, truck gun, or SHTF packer that you would have to use without the luxury of wearing ear protection, ear damage or even hearing loss is a side effect never discussed in shotgun reviews and recommendations.

People are too busy arguing between buck and birdshot as if there are only two choices (far from it). The problem is, and will always be for city dwellers, is where can you even test defensive loads without having to join a gun club that has an open air range?

But, please address the potential issues of firing a Raptor grip,vis-a-vis, a pistol grip.

  9. Bryan says:

Love my raptor grip. What sling works best with this set up?

  10. Phil C. says:

I just ordered my raptor grip off of amazon last night! I’m anxiously awaiting its arrival! About how long does it take to ship, normally? It said that it would be here April 2nd.

    • marty says:

      Hello Phil,

Thank you for your purchase. If you ordered last night, we will ship it today. It will take anywhere from two days to five days to reach you. Amazon is quite pessimistic with its arrival dates, I’ve noticed.

      Thank you again,

      • Phil C. says:

Thank you, Marty. I really appreciate your reply and your help! I’ll be sure to make a review and post it to youtube in the near future.

  11. Chris says:

Hey, I’m wanting to buy a Mossberg 500 sometime in the near future. By chance do you also make this raptor grips in wood as well?

  12. bill norton says:

Will the raptor grip on a 500 with shoulder stock orginaly still be legal with 18.5 barrel in michigan

  13. Cam says:

Ordered your raptor grip for my maverick 88 and fits perfect. Any recommendations for a strap that would fit with it without having to drill a hole in the grip? Thanks

    • marty says:

      Hello Cam,

Glad to hear the Raptor Grip fit your Maverick perfectly. The only forend straps that I know of require drilling the forend.

      Thank you for writing,

  14. Greg says:

I have looked for one of these set ups for several years and just found your web sight by luck. Ordered it to day. Much better way to handle the shotgun than the straight up pistol grip. Better conceal carry under a long coat also.Looking forward to using it.

  15. mickelwayne says:

will same setup work on a maverick 88?

  16. Loren says:

can you put this on a semi auto mossberg and still be legal? I feel like it would be just that much more fun

  17. Randy Reay says:

Will he raptor grip work on the Mossberg Flex 500? I didn’t quite know if that makes a big difference. Thanks!

    • marty says:

Yes, the Flex adapter is easily removed from the Mossberg receiver. Just a single screw holds it on. Remove the Flex adapter, and then the Raptor Grip M500 will bolt right on like normal.

      Thank you for writing,

    • Andrew says:

If you are removing your flex adapter I would love to buy it off you. and the 500 receiver is the same for stocks no matter the model.

  18. bob silva says:

will the Raptor grip fit my Mossberg 510 super bantam 20 gauge.this is Mossbergs smallest shotgun

  19. Ron H. says:

Mossburg used to make a grip like this years ago. I know, I saw it with my own eyes in a gun store 15 years ago. To bad it was for the Winchester 1200 and not the Mossburg 500. This one looks better, I have been looking for this ever since at great length, talking to “Reps” from every company. I like my shotgun, but I hate that original pistol grip that came with the Maverick, hate it! Now after 15 years I only have to wait until Monday morning to call and order it.
I just know it will be easier on my wrist to shoot now besides it just looks so right! Makes me wonder why Mossburg ever made that original straight pistol grip in the first place?

    • marty says:

      Hi Ron,

Glad to hear you found our product. Sure, just give us a call at 801-815-5178, and we’ll hook you up with the Raptor Grip M500.

      Thank you for writing in,

  20. Gene says:

Are the parts listed for the mossberg 14″ barrel, mag tube, spring etc. on this site the same parts that would be on a regular field model 500? Could I then cut that barrel down to 14″ and put with my pgo receiver and raptor grip to make the aow shotgun?

  21. Todd says:

I see ?the 870 grip comes with a plug for ?the bolt hole. Does ?the Moss Berg version also have a plug?

  22. Kevin says:

How about fit on the mossberg 835? I’ve had good luck with most furniture, but figured better to ask.

  23. Mike says:

Is the bird’s head grip made for a Benelli Supernova? If not, can one be easily retro-fitted?

  24. Mike Fox says:

Do you make, or can one be modified, that will work on a Benelli Supernova tactical?

  25. shayne patterson says:

hey just wondering what the shipping to New Brunswick Canada would be?

  26. Jonathan Pfitzinger says:

One of the best purchases ive ever made for my mossberg 500. Shot it for the first time today with the grip, I have always hated PG’ on shotgun due to the shock and wrist snap. This grip is super comfortable and cant even feel the recoil shot after shot. Fired my shotgun in different ways being from the hip to looking down the sights and this thing just rocks! Love it! Not once was recoil or being uncomfortable an issue. Will definitely be telling my friends about this and will be purchasing more in the future. THANKS!!!

  27. K Thompson says:

Just received my raptor grip today for my Mossberg 500 JIC. I must say I love the way it looks and feels in my hand. Very solid and durable grip that will last a lifetime. Some people say the grip is slippery but thats not true at all. Can’t wait to take it to the range to feel the recoil reduction. I am a satisfied customer and will buy products in the future. Hope you create more accessories for the Mossberg 500. Thanks Marty.

  28. Chico F. says:

Quick question, I’m about to get the raptor grip and the tactical forearm strap for my 500. The question is: if I decide to get with Mossberg and get the conversion kit, how many shells will it take with the new set up ??? Please advise…

  29. Dylan Sims says:

Can anyone tell me where I can get a barrel and magzine tube like the one in the picture for a Maverick 88 8 shot security model?

    • marty says:

      Hi Dylan,

Call Mossberg customer service directly at 1-800-363-3555. If the customer service rep you get doesn’t immediately know what you want, ask to speak to another one. Seems like half of them are in the know, and the other half—no idea.

      Thank you,

    • Clint says:

mag tube, mag tube spring, and 20″ barrel can be bought at Brownell’s. Midway USA carries everything but the 20″ barrel for the 7+1 shot guns………..

  30. Ryan says:

Need to make this in the flex conversion line-up

    • marty says:

It’s very easy to remove the Flex adapter. It simply unbolts. Then you can install the Raptor Grip M500 onto your Mossberg receiver as designed.

  31. Dave says:

I put on a Handall Tactical Sleeve, large #12710 on it to get a little more grip. I probably could have run the smaller one, but I didn’t want to take the chance ripping it. I also put on a Blackhawk strap on single point sling adapter that I had laying around, rather than drill a hole in the grip. I haven’t taken it out to the range yet but I can already tell that I’m going to love this grip. Great work!

  32. Michael Fleming says:

Now 500 rounds later I must say that this grip is amazing… more pain from slugs and buckshot…. Improves aim as well..Well worth the price……Thank you for a great product…….

  33. Michael Fleming says:

Ordered on the 7th it arrived today on the 10th…..Five minutes later it was installed…..Besides being sexy as hell it allows for the use of three inch magnum loads painlessly.. After 25 rounds it still was a joy to shoot.. A great product from a company that understands customer satisfaction…..Thank you Marty for the help in ordering when Pay Pal dropped the ball…..

  34. Damon says:

This may be a dumb question but here goes ;)
I’m looking to find out if your raptor grip will fit to my el cheapo Tristar Raptor autoloader. I do not have access to a 500 or an 870 to test fit or I would just try out the factory furniture from one of those. More or less wanting an opinion if you think it could be retrofitted to work or possibly if you would consider making one. I mean it kinda makes sense, make a raptor for the raptor lol. For what it’s worth it’s a pretty BA shotgun despite what peoples opinions of the foreign market may be.

    Thanks for your time

    • marty says:

      Hi Damon,

I’ve never seen a Tristar Raptor in person. But it being an autoloader makes me think it wouldn’t work with the Raptor Grip. Most auto-loaders have their recoil systems in the buttstock.

      Thank you for writing,

  35. Marty says:

Order this grip, even if your a pistol grip naysayer. I could shoot this shotgun all day. Here’s a link to my forum with pictures

    Thanks Marty!

  36. brando says:

Has anyone seen the Black Aces Tactical pro 5 series receiver? The reason I ask is what would your thoughts be on the 14″ mod using it since it is a receiver with a serial number without a stock. I’m just wondering about the legal issues.

    • marty says:

Thanks for the tip on the Black Aces receiver. Cool idea.

IMHO, and I’m not an attorney, mind you, I think you would be good to go, as long as your state and local jurisdictions allow the non-NFA 26.5″ OAL gun.

      Thank you again,

      • Brando says:

Thanks for answering and I also forgot to mention how awesome the Raptor grip is. I was amazed how well it feels versus a regular pistol grip. Will definitely be ordering another for my other Mossberg 500. Thanks again for great customer service and a great product.

  37. Nick says:

    Awesome customer service!!

  38. Alex B says:

Just bought a Mossberg 500 yesterday and was looking for a few accessories, and happen to run across the Raptor grip on Youtube….IMPRESSED. Then the guy gave out the web address and hear I am reading all the reviews, now what? I GOTTA GET IT NOW!! I will follow up Marty.

    • Alex B says:

Just a question to add…is there a need for a rubberized ‘glove’ for this Raptor grip? Is there one? Thanks.

      • marty says:

        Hello Alex,

You know, I have had a couple of customers add those slip-on rubber grips–you know, the kind for the Glocks. Most times that has ended in blisters. I guess there is such a thing as “too much grip.” ;) The Raptor Grip as it is works perfectly–and no blisters! :)

        Thank you for writing,

        • Alex B says:

Love it man! No need for the ruberized grip..its great. I hope to find a sling for this as well. Not sure where to attach it on my mossberg 500 20″

  39. Brian Craig says:

Will this fit a Mossberg 500E?

    • marty says:

      Hello Brian,

Thank you for writing. The Raptor Grip M500 will not fit the little .410 guns–not without A LOT of Dremel work. It has been done. But it’s a lot of work.

      Thank you again,

  40. C Starr says:

Marty, I received my raptors grip and just wanted to say thank you very much.

  41. greg says:

Hey man. I love it. I have no clue why anyone would want a pistol grip rather than a bird’s head… Anyway I plan on installing a stud for a sling, and I just want to confirm that any of the usual products on Amazon can be used with the Raptor’s plastic material. Thanks if you respond to this, and thanks for a great product.

  42. jim g says:

you have probably addressed this, but i want to make sure, i’ve got a 500a mariner (pistol grip) and i want to know if the raptor fits. sorry if this is redundant, i just couldn’t find a clear answer…

  43. Dalton M says:

Just received my Maverick 88 with regular stock and pistol grip yesterday. Picked up my Raptor grip from the mailbox today. Installation was a breeze. Included allen wrench with the pistol grip is same size as needed to install the Raptor grip. Grip feels very solid and durable. Does not feel cheap at all. Balance feels good too. Can’t wait till the weekend to try it out. Thanks so much for a quality product and probably the fastest shipping I have ever seen along with a great price.

    • Lorraine says:

      Hello Dalton M

I would like to purchase a raptor grip for my
maverick 88 12GA do have a model no. for the
one you have purchased, please help !!!

  44. Karl says:

I just got back from the range with my Mossy 500; had received and installed the Raptor grip a few days ago, was eager to try it out. I can’t say anything but WOW.
Here is a product that performs way above expectations, it turned my Mossberg into my all-time favorite gun to shoot. Ran high-brass shells and double-ought buck through it from the hip like it was nothing, and brutally murdered an entire case of Dasani drinking water. Actually had other people at the range wandering over to check it out.
I can’t say enough good about this product, but I can say THANK YOU! :)

  45. Adam says:

Just got off the phone with a few local gunshops. In Illinois, its perfectly legal to do the shortened-barrel PGO method as mentioned here…but the barrel HAS to be 16 inches in IL, not the 14 inches that everywhere else is allowed. That being said, I’m ordering one of these bad boys this week…

  46. Dustin says:

I’m guessing if I put this on a 500 jic it wont fit in the tube anymore?

    • marty says:

I’m going to claim ignorance on this one. I simply don’t know, as I haven’t had a JIC with its tube in the shop yet. JIC, yes. With its tube, no.

      Anyone else know for sure?

    • Brad C says:

No the j.i.c. wont fit in the tube with the grip added but if you do the 14 inch barrel mod it fits perfectly in the tube. I personally have it and love the mod!

  47. Mike says:

    Hi Marty,
I have an older Mossberg, a 660 master mag. I am curious to know if your stock would fit this old hunting shotgun that I would like to make a more appropriate home defense weapon?

    • marty says:

      Hello Mike,

Yes, the Raptor Grip will fit your model CC 660 Master Mag perfectly. The CC 660 was simply a Mossberg 500 relabeled and sold through Coast to Coast hardware stores.

      Thank you for writing in,

    • Bennie says:

Very nice product, I bought the Mossberg JIC pistol grip 12 ga and added this grip. Very sturdy and could be used as a club if you run out of ammo…ha

I went the cheaper route and simply machined my barrel down to about 16″ to avoid buying the entire front end assebly. I keep copies of the ATF letters Len received with the weapon at all times.

  48. Dylan says:

Let me just say that Marty puts out a top quality product! First off I was amazed how quickly he was able to ship out my order and I appreciate the customer care Marty has established. I looked forward to receiving my new Raptor grip right when I placed the order, based on everything positive I’ve seen and read. Once I got the grip I can say I was downright impressed with the quality of the grip. It just felt so solid in the hand. After being able to put some rounds through my Mossberg with the new grip I can say it truly transforms the firearm. You can be sure I will be promoting Marty’s top quality products on any occasion that arises. Thanks again Marty!

    • marty says:

Thank you for the very kind words. I’m always happy to hear how happy customers are with my products. I truly appreciate your time to write, Dylan.

      Thank you again,

  49. Brad C says:

Hey Marty! I finished my project and I now have the PERFECT Shotgun thanks to you! I have 3 videos on youtube displaying the gun and wanted to share with your forum. Thanks again and to anyone out there whos considering this task its actually pretty easy. The list of needed parts is very helpful. I have zero gunsmithing experience and it was a piece of cake!

  50. Jon Sanders says:

Ohh I wish these came in other colors.
    Yes yes
Oh well, I’ll buy one and give Krylon fusion paint a shot!

Now hurry up with that 870 version, I need it too LoL
